Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to offer a systematic reconstruction of the debate which followed after the Nonaka and Takeuchi's theoretical proposal regarding a model of knowledge production at the level of an organization, the so-called SECI Model. The engine of knowledge creation process is the conversion of knowledge in four modes - socialization, externalization, combination and internalization. In this spiral model the main process is a multiple interaction between tacit and explicit knowledge. But many objections against this model were advanced. This study tried to encompass the most of them, first of all those with an epistemological content. As a result of the critical debate, the initial version of SECI Model was revised and extended. The concept of ba and the idea of knowledge assets were the last theoretical comers. But the debate is still open to new developments.
