Summary/Abstract: This is a deep analysis of the terms reached at he signing of the Bulgarian-Nicaean peace treaty in 1256. For this purpose use has been made of the known historical and archeological information and for a less known Byzantine source, not fully put in scientific circulation: “The Message of the Nicaean Emperor Theodore Laskaris to His Envoys in the East”. The full Bulgarian translation of this important source of Bulgarian-Nicaean relations in the mid-13th century is also published. A number of geographic and historical specifications are made from the analysis of the monument. This has enabled the author to give a well-grounded explanation of the positions of the Nicaean basileus and to differentiate what was actually achieved by him from what probably remained only as intentions and claims.
