Summary/Abstract: Understanding is the basis of the phenomenological approach in philosophy. Insofar as fundamentally distinct from explanation or interpretation, found a path to exploring a person and personality first in psychopathology and then more widely in clinical psychology. It enables the genesis of psychic theoretical elaborations, structure and evolution. After a quick presentation of its basic conceptions (observation, intentionality, understanding), we will present how the phenomenological method, sometimes abstract in its principles and conceptions, can be applied concretely to situations of interpersonal exchanges, to an underlying conception of psychic disorders and to take care of existential fragilities in the support provided to them starting from a comprehensive sharing of evolving intentionalities between patient and practitioner.
