Summary/Abstract: The life of a parish is tied to the spiritual activity of priests, who, besides fulfilling this duty, also take care of the practical side of the church, by helping restore, or even establishing new church buildings on land purchased or donated to the church by benefactors throughout its history. Some of these buildings were, and still are part of the sacred goods category (the church), or were assimilated into sacred goods (the parish building and the parish tradition), or even common goods (various agricultural lands, pastures, woodlands, or annex buildings). In a majority of cases, until the beginning of the 20th century, priests were village sons, having been recommended for theological education and ordination by their local contemporaries; while some went to other “township churches”.One such priest was Andrei-Pop Bociat, originating from the village Clopotiva, of the historical Hațeg County, who after being ordinated to the Băuțaru Superior parish (formerly part of Hunedoara district, now belonging to the Caraș-Severin district), left his mark on the religious community. Having parents and two sisters, after reaching adulthood, he established his own family, happy to see the birth of four direct descendants. Three remained in their native place, and a grand-grandson became priest in the same parish of Băuțaru Superior. Another one was Augustin Pop-Bociat, a teacher, who left his native place, and his nephews moved to Deva, Cluj-Napoca, Marghita, and various cities in the United States or Canada. Therefore, his parochial work and his family tree, reconstructed from genuine archive documents, and information from his living descendants, are the object of this hereby study.
