Summary/Abstract: The author starts from the editing of the volume the Romanian Asylum in Poland in 2009, bringing up for discussion numerous data on the historical and political context of the Poles’ refuge in Romania in 1939. They stress the great contribution of the Romanian people to saving the Polish hoard and to assuring the living conditions for thousands of Polish refugees, as well as the Romanian state’s taking political risks. Numerous data and information on this sad period in the history of the Polish people were published by the historian Nicolae Iorga in the newspapers and magazines of that time, greatly contributing to the presentation of the historical and political framework within which this complicated and dramatic episode in the life of the Poles took place. Iorga always points out the historical Polish-Romanian relations, showing his appreciation for the power of sacrifice shown by the Polish alongside their history and his sympathy as for the tragedy they had to pass through during the World War II.
