Summary/Abstract: Due to war and instability, Gypsies migrated westward from their homeland, India, and dispersed to different parts of the world from two branches. The Gypsies, who spread over a wide geographical area in the Ottoman Empire, were called Çingâne and Kıptî. The Ottoman Empire did not discriminate against the Gypsies, and showed sensitivity to the regular collection of taxes and public order. The Ottoman Empire tried to create an order by eliminating the confusion about the Gypsies with the legal regulations it made in different periods. In the first half of the 16th century, the Roma were dispersed as 383 congregations under Rumelia's 90 judgeships. In the Rumeli province, there is also Eski Zağra among the districts where the non-Muslim Gypsy population is concentrated. The city, which was probably conquered by the Ottomans in 1371, was included in the districts of Rumelia province and remained connected to Edirne for a long time. With this study, the situation of the Gypsies in the Old Zagora in the first half of the 16th century will be revealed. While revealing the situation of the Gypsies living here, Ottoman archive sources were used. At the beginning of these sources are the Land Registry Number 120, which shows the population and economic status of the Gypsies in the Old Zagora. By making use of these sources, the population of the Gypsies in Old Zagora, their occupations, and their economic and social situations will be revealed.
