Summary/Abstract: In course of 150 years—long history of the Faculty of Law in Belgrade (1841—1991), special place is taken by the criminal law sciences since they were important not only for the development of this area of science in Serbia, but also relevant within the European framework. By establishing the Legal Department in 1841 previous elaboration and study of criminal law sciences continues, followed by constant publishing of text—books, the first one being "Basic foundations of activity of police" by Ivan Rajić. Worth mentionning is also the "Explanation of the Penal Code for the Princedom of Serbia" by Đorđe Cenić. In 1863, when the Academy was established, the study of criminal law sciences acquired new impetus by introducing the subject of legal medicine, with professor Milan Jovanovic Batut, as well as of criminology. An entirely new step in the development of these sciences in Serbia was effected by Božidar Marković, who, in addition to his initial chair of criminal procedure, started the theoretical elaboration of the matter. This resulted to the text-book of Serbian criminal judicial procedure, where the system was presented in this sphere based on principles of reformed criminal procedure in Europe. Finally, owing to Toma Živanović, with whom the Belgrade School entered European achievements, this field was based on legal philosophy. The work of Živanović is not surpassed even today and his first—class contribution to constructing the tri—partite system in the study "The foundations of criminal law" has marked the corner-stone in the criminal—law science.
