Summary/Abstract: The plautine toponymy unifies in relation with the action of comedy three types, somehow different, of worlds: the Roman, the Greek and semi-barbarian, allowing in this way, an extraordinary mobility of characters disadvantaged by the fixity of masks. The plautine geography animates and mobilizes types and characters, which the palliata formula established. So we talk about a toponymy of soldiers, slaves, merchants, parasites, fathers, sons. The toponyms constant appeals to Roman, Italian and Greek world, is a source of comic imaginary revealed at all levels: action, characters, language; also suggests a constant and permanent alternation between the actuality and convention.
