A Comparative Analysis of Russia and China’s Myanmar Strategies

Summary/Abstract: Myanmar is a Southeast Asian country where military tutelage has been strong since the modern era. With the last military coup on February 1, 2021, it was seen that the Myanmar Junta started to get closer with Russia and China. While the Western powers impose sanctions on the Myanmar Junta, the fact that Russia and China continued to sell weapons to this regime drew considerable worldwide attention. It has been claimed in the world opinion that China has established a great dominance over Myanmar. However, in the same period, Russia’s relations with Myanmar continued to increase. This study comparatively analyses the strategies of Russia and China in Myanmar.
