Summary/Abstract: The Single Transferable Vote (STV), although it already has its place in Polish literature, does not appear in broader discussions as a serious alternative to the current electoral system used in Poland. STV – the oldest proportional system used – has, however, features that should be attractive both for supporters of proportional elections and supporters of FPTP. The article discusses the history and properties of the STV, with particular emphasis on the proportionality for solid coalitions. Due to this property, the STV may turn out to be particularly appropriate for countries where coalitions and alliances between parties are important already at the election stage, which is also the case of Poland. The further part of the article discusses the practical and organizational limitations of the possible introduction of STV in Poland.
