HİKMET KIVILCIMLI'S OPINIONS ON THE DETERIORATION OF THE OTTOMAN ILMIYE ORGANIZATION

Summary/Abstract: The research focuses on Hikmet Kıvılcımlı’s approach to the problem of the deterioration of the Ottoman Ilmiye Organization in the context of her basic analysis of the structure and development of the Ottoman Ilmiye Organization. Kıvılcımlı has examined this problem within the framework of the historical materialist worldview and explained the reasons for the deterioration of the Ottoman Ilmiye Organization in the context of infrastructure-superstructure relations (based on the relationship between economic structure and epistemic structure). For this reason, it is seen that Kıvılcımlı linked the deterioration in the Ottoman Ilmiye Organization to the deterioration in the Ottoman Economy. This research is important because it is the first time that discusses Kıvılcımlı’s views on the subject objectively and with first-hand sources. In this context, it is thought that his ideas about the reasons for the deterioration of the Ottoman Ilmiye Organization could be ground for stimulating discussions on the subject.
