Summary/Abstract: Not much is known about the conflict between the Roman Empire and Persia in the second half of the 230s. It is reported that the Persians conquered Hatra, where a Roman garrison was probably stationed, and seized a major part of the Roman province of Mesopotamia. Despite such facts, this particular war is practically overlooked in the works of many Roman and Byzantine historians. There may be several possible reasons: the emperor did not participate in the conflict personally; the loss of the Roman Mesopotamia was temporary; the Byzantine authors misidentified similar conflicts, putting them in a wrong chronological order, duplicating or combining such historical events, while Roman historians would focus on the situation in Europe rather than on the Middle East.
