Summary/Abstract: The article tackles the great Stanislavskian schools and their pedagogical principles, which – though different – had the same goal: to view the actor as a creator and not as a simple interpreter. It starts with the Stanislavskian principles which state that acting is an inside out process, then moves to Michael Chekhov which views acting as an outside-in process and to Lee Strasberg with his relaxation, concentration and affective memory; it also touches upon Ion Cojar for whom acting is a specific logical mechanism, as well as on Meyerhold’s physical training, aimed to reach a proper “embodiment’ and a complete artistic act. The article scans the universe of acting built by these great theatre personalities and their schools that have given actors all over the world the means to practice their profession in the most brilliant way.
