NEW CHALLENGES IN DEVELOPING LITERACY SKILLS

Summary/Abstract: Covid 19 issued a new challenge in literacy education, as most of the classes went online, meaning the text the students were reading could be radically changed. The presence of the teacher was substituted by the presence of the computer, which meant that the communication was mediated by the machine. Therefore the main change was text reading and comprehension. Multimodal literacy tends to replace the linear or intensive reading, as it was called. Therefore, multimodal literacy teaching and learning has been compulsorily enhanced in order to adapt to the challenge of online education.
