Some conceptual clarifications. Reflections on identity

Summary/Abstract: Though the notion of identity and specially the notion of national/ethnic identity is being regarded with suspicious eyes and it is being considered as generating oppressive attitudes and oppressive policies towards something mysterious that is called the difference. Nevertheless this kind of identity remains one of the main concepts for understanding human culture, society, politic and a strong sense of national/ethnic identity provides the means to a successful integration in the world of globalization and also makes possible in a national-state the building of a society where its members can enjoy equal personal freedom. This is done through the building o a national citizenship, that is rooted in the national identity.
