Summary/Abstract: The communist system collapsed was due to other causes than the military ones. The searching of this causes has generated a redefinition of security concept, its meaning broadening beyond the military senses. In this way has appeared the field of security studies. The most important promoters of this field are the Copenhagen School`s fellows. Some essential concepts of this School, such as securitization, societal security or identity, have imposed to the public speech. However, the state remains the most meaningful subject for the Copenhagen School and for its fellows. At present, the security studies field is broadening: it includes so-called alternative concepts of security, where the human being is the most important subject or value.
