Summary/Abstract: The author of this paper deals with the issue of prosecutorial supervision over the observance of law by public administration authorities. This is a topic that has long been the subject of numerous discussions in the Slovak Republic, especially in the context of maintaining this legal instrument, or its complete elimination. In the first part of the paper, the author focuses on clarifying the term “prosecutorial supervision” in general, on its nature and classification in the Slovak legal environment. Subsequently, the author clarifies the historical background of the establishment and development of the institution, analyses its changes over time and draws attention to its connection with other legal institutions. The author also points out some problematic elements and tries to formulate his own legal opinion regarding the relevance and justification of the existence of this legal institution in the legal order of the Slovak Republic.
