Summary/Abstract: Back in the days of the Ottoman Empire, a kind of salary referred to as “tekâüt ulûfesi” was given to those who had served in various levels of the army and bureaucracy, and who could no longer serve due to some reasons, after leaving their active duty. Until the reign of Selim II, retirement pensions would have been from funds from the mayor şehremini (mayor) or foundations of the selatîn (royal) mosques. After Selim the II, they were paid from the central treasury once every three mounts. If retirees wish reside outside of Istanbul, they received their pension either from the customs or from mukataa of the city they settled in. Our findings show us that some Kapıkulu and palace organization members received had in fact received their salaries from the Ankara Stamp Mukataa. In this study, we have focused on this issue throughout different regions of the Ottoman Empire. To do so, we turned to the Presidency Ottoman Archive’s Ali Emirî Sultan Mehmed The Four manuscript (Cumhurbaşkanlığı Osmanlı Arşivi Ali Emirî Sultan IV. Mehmed) (AE.SMMD.IV) to help guide us.
