Summary/Abstract: In the ancient world, diseases caused by parasites were a serious problem, contributing to significant economic losses. Scabies was particularly troublesome for growers, causing damage to the fleece in sheep and the general deterioration of the condition of all infected animals. Due to the problems caused by the invasion of this parasite, the ancients attempted to combat it. Many of the methods proposed by growers and veterinarians have been quite effective. An extremely interesting source for research on the effectiveness of scabies treatments is the Geoponics of Cassianus Bassus Scholastik. The author wrote from the perspective of the eastern part of the Roman Empire based on many unpreserved texts. The treatments he describes are less numerous than those known from older works, which is partly because of the nature of his work. Undoubtedly, some drugs also differ slightly in composition from those proposed by older authors, which may be related to the local specificity and difficulty in obtaining certain ingredients or knowledge of their effectiveness when tested in practice, despite the use of a less complicated composition.
