Summary/Abstract: Romanian popular culture is a heritage with valuable elements: ballads, songs, legends, stories; these are valuable not only due to the way in which they were produced, but also due to their sources. Some of the best-preserved creations can be found in the Maramureș repertoire. These are often based on historical events. Leafing through the volumes on the history of Maramureș, we can notice a multitude of significant events. The most significant events remained in the pages of history, but also in the memory of the people of Maramureș. They gave them great significance and wanted not only to remember them, but also to commemorate the heroes responsible for them. Ballads, songs, legends, or popular plays represent the simplest means by which the characters responsible for victories or sacrifices are known today. Such acts of remembrance are important for the community; for a researcher, it is important to know how these cultural products were created or were associated with historical events. A very interesting aspect to be analyzed is the relationship between historical reality and popular creation. What elements did the community use to succeed in recording these moments? We will analyze these aspects in the following pages.
