Summary/Abstract: The protection of the rights of the child is an international priority, given the need to preserve the physical and mental integrity of the child, in order to ensure a harmonious growth. The incidence of abuse is influenced by environmental factors in which the child grows up, the cultural identity, the mentality of the society, but also by family factors. Child abuse is treated differently in the literature, seeking to define as accurately as possible this problem, which has consequences for the child's health, survival, development or dignity. The present study brings an overview of the types of abuse, forms of manifestation, causes of aggression/ abuse on the child, its consequences and the external factors that increase the risk of abuse. The precise definition of the problem is important in order to carry out the steps to find suitable solutions
