Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the main syntactic properties of the verb съм (to be) and the specifics of constructing stative predicates as part of the binominative structure N cop N. The author presents the results of previous research related to the linguistic and philosophical aspects in the evolution of the analysis. Special attention is paid to the two major grammatical prototypes inherited from the ancient tradition – Plato’s and Aris-totle’s. Based on their philosophical interpretations, the analysis follows an analytical and holistic approach to the definition of predicativeness. It relies on the predicative noun group re-write procedure, which results in the production of a list of copulative sentences. The author defends the view that the functional variants of the verb съм in the Bulgarian sentence give rise to its different meanings, which are always in tandem with and dependent on the combinatorics of the categories Ou, N, A, PP and Adv with the tautology-based basic binominative syntactic matrix.
