Summary/Abstract: In this paper we will analyze examples of American and French cinematography from late XXth century - early XXIst century through the reading key of skepticism, conceived as a practical problem, rather than theoretical, as Stanley Cavell considered it not so long ago. We will contrast the genre of comedies of remarriage proposed by Cavell in Pursuits of Happiness, through which the skepticism is overcame, with four movies that, although also subsumed in the comedy genre, they do not lead to the recovery of skepticism, quite the contrary - they affirm the absurd of existence and the loss of trust in the world. The skepticism is not caused by a lack of trust in the other, but it reverberates on interpersonal relationships after invading the world and first causing the rupture of life by revealing the absurd. To signal the presence of the absurdist spirit we will take support on some lines of the characters announcing the skeptical (re)turn in cinematography and we will analyze them consequently. We aim to show how, in contrast to the movies belonging to the remarriage comedy genre, the effect of skepticism understood as a practical issue is no longer the separation from the other, but that it is the replacement of trusting life with trusting death. What reinforces skepticism and what we strive to demonstrate is, on one hand the absurdist, and on the other the existentialist spirit of the XXth century.
