Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the possible sources and forms of Schmitt‘s description and interpretation of the developments in European thought of the Modern Age including the consequences these developments have brought for the way of understanding the human being in a changed situation. The presented analysis limits itself to Schmitt‘s texts which were published before 1933, taking into account his personal notes and diaries. In the article, the author aims to demonstrate that in order to understand Schmitt‘s anthropological position, it is essential to account for its development, which initially bears traces of the Christian tradition, though it is later reshaped by the application of political theology as a sociology of political concepts. This development culminates in proposing the concept of the political associated with an anthropology which could be referred to as negative.
