Summary/Abstract: After Herbert Melzig has published a book about Ataturk in Germany, who got a position as a German lecturer at the Faculty of Language and History-Geography in Ankara. He was mistakenly called a famous German historian and German philosopher in Turkey. His intriguing personality is shown on the basis of the archive materials. This article discusses his biography in relation to Turkey. From the data of the German archive it appears that during his stay in Turkey he carried out some activities for the benefit of many countries. Data from archive materials from the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Democratic Republic, as well as from the University of Istanbul and the Faculty of Languages and History-Geography in Ankara were used. The archival documents played an irreplaceable role as they enabled comparison in the analysis. The method of "historical research", one of the qualitative research models, was used to evaluate the data collected.
