Summary/Abstract: Bektashism is a sect of the shiit branch of the Islamic faith, which was founded by Haxhi Bektash Veliu at the end of the thirteenth century. In Albania Bektashism spread as result of several factors, as: the work of the missionaries of Haxhi Bektash where stands out the missionary Sari Salltek. The janissary factor as an element connected with Bektashism, who after leaving the military service, spread the Bektashian faith in the Albanian regions. The religious tolerance, which characterized the Bektashian sect, the mystic force and its connection with the Albanian national question are, also, factors in the spread of Bektashism. On the basis of two laws on the religious communities of the years 1929 and 1949, the Bektashian sect in Albanian won the status of religious community as equal with the other three communities, the Catholics, the Orthodoxes and the suni Moslems. In the first years of the war some fathers (baballarë) with clerical and state administrative functions initiated a reform in the bosom of the Bektashian community. Protagonists of the reforms were the deputies Baba Faja and Baba Fejzo, who in January of the year 1947 put them forward for discussion in the General Council of the community. Since the January of the year 1947 and until the March of that year it seemed that the reforms sank in oblivion, but in 14 March of the same year it was formed a group with name “the Progressive Bektashis”. The fundamental status of the state did not allow the formation of organizations on religious basis, that’s why Baba Faja (Baba Mustafa Xhani) proposed to be called “the Group of the Progressive Bektashis”. a) They took the decision to form a group within the bosom of the community, which was baptized with the name “the Progressive Bektashis”. It was compiled a resolution which was signed by all the clergymen who adhered to this group and was opposed by the majority of the clergymen who were present at the world’s center of the Bektashi’s sect. b) It was decided to begin the preparations for discussing this question and a decision for the meeting of the General Council which would meet in 2 May. The group which opposed the reform was headed by Dede Abazi, head of the Bektashis in that period. The resolution was compiled in three copies and its essence was constituted by the reform in the bosom of the community which aimed at: 1) The removal of the dress of the clergyman outside the Bektashi institution, thus, outside the tekke (monastery of the Bektashis). 2) The removal of the beard which was held by the Bektashi clergymen, and 3) The legitimation of the marriage for the Bektashi clergymen. The head of the Bektashi Abaz Halim Dede was acquainted with all the last developments and requested to Baba Faja a copy of the resolution for which he discussed with B. Spahi, who was at the same time minister and member of the General Council of the Bektashi community.
