Summary/Abstract: Andrei Tarkovsky is one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of film and of the Soviet era. In 1976 he worked with brothers Boris and Arkadi Strugatki on the screenplay for Stalker. The films of the great Russian director and actor were fiercely opposed by the communist regime and often censored. Tarkovsky was a humble spirit, who put his creation and his whole life in the service of God. This essay aims at a theological interpretation of the film Stalker, often considered by critics to be “difficult to understand”. The film is adorned with biblical quotes, prayers and other symbols (icons, fish, water, crown of thorns, contemplations), which prove the presence of Christian spiritualization, without forgetting their orthodox dimension.
