The Figure of Ştefan cel Mare in Moldavian Csángó Folklore

Summary/Abstract: Unlike the figure of King Matthias, whose name appears only sporadically in Moldavian Hungarian folklore (some of which was recorded by the Csángó who settled in Hungary), the folk memory of Matthias’ contemporary, the Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare), who reigned for nearly half a century (1457-1504), is an integral part of local oral tradition.
