Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to introduce the research results concerning the significance of convicted person’s personality traits in a process of adapting to prison conditions. This research was conducted among sixty men remained to the Bialystok Correctional Facility using a psychological personality inventory, NEO-FFI (McCrae, Robert R., Costa, Paul T., NEO Five-Factor Inventory; Szczepaniak P., Śliwińska M., Strelau J., Zawadzki I., Inwentarz osobowości Paula T. Costy Jr i Roberta R. McCrae) and Questionnaire Modele adaptacji skazanych do warunków więziennych by D. Kanarek – Lizik. The results based on author’s personal research indicate the evidence on the relationship between prisoner’s personality traits and the process of adjustment to prison and correctional practises. The personality traits that constitute Five Factor Model (for example: extraversion, neuroticism, and agreeableness) correlate with respective adaptational levels. It implies that the measure of subordinate dimensions and inmate’s individual features (personality factors) analysis may help predict the possible way of adjustment to incarceration. This is particularly important in the context of prison system formation, as well as in improving the institutional programming effectiveness.
