Summary/Abstract: The effective prevention and combating of terrorism, in general, and of terrorist crimes, such as hostage-taking, in particular, is not possible without investigating the causes and conditions of these types of crimes, the personality of the offender and the victim, etc. An important role in identifying special measures to prevent hostage-taking belongs to the investigation, in terms of the level, structure and dynamics of the respective legal-criminal act. Therefore, this scientific article includes the analysis of quantitative-qualitative indicators of hostage-taking for the period of 1992-2020. The year 1992 was chosen as the reference year for the reasons that, precisely this year, the crime of taking hostages in the Republic of Moldova was registered for the first time. At the same time, the study focuses on identifying the criminological concept of this crime, as well as on establishing its latency.
