Maria Cebotari in the circle of Russian emigrants

Summary/Abstract: The article reviews the information about the contacts of M. Cebotari with the “Russian world” of Western Europe. Her international artistic career started thanks to her relations with famous representatives of the Russian culture, in whose environment she spent a good part of her life: from the emigration from native Chisinau until her death. This fact is attested in letters, memories of contemporaries, articles, etc. The author emphasizes A. Vyrubov’s special role in educating M. Cebotari’s artistic taste and in developing her acting capabilities, as well as the importance of his work as a manager. The author cites a series of articles from newspapers, which highlight M. Cebotari’s performances in the evenings, organized by the Russian diaspora. The accumulated material allows the author to identify the personality and multinational art of the singer in the context of the Russian emigrant culture.
