Summary/Abstract: The goal of the article is to present Napoleon Bonaparte’s attitude towards religion and the Church, which was expressed in the social and political life of France during hisreign. The main point of inquiry was the then situation of the Church and its relations with the French state, sacralization and desacralisation, secularization and Catholicization, as well as the legitimacy of the authorities. A separate element of research is the religiosity of the French emperor.
