Summary/Abstract: Emese Simó followed the five-month long rehearsal period of The State Small Theatre of Vilnius where the Slovenian theatre director Tomi Janežič directed Uncle Vania. By reading her rehearsal journal we can get a glimpse into the procedure of a mise-en-scene of a Chekhov play, into the directing mechanisms of Janežič based on psychodrama, and into the work of the actors of Vilnius. All these are put in parallel with the author’s own professional expertise, and the text looks for answers to the question of how exercises based on the psychodrama method can help the rehearsal, how a healthy work environment can be created, and how an actor can stay fresh and balanced even during an intensive rehearsal period.
