Cooperation in the field of creating unique patent protection

Summary/Abstract: Particularly in terms of translation requirements, the current European Patent system is very expensive and complex. The European Commission proposes unitary patent protection to boost research and innovation. The Council decision authorising enhanced cooperation in the area of the creation of unitary patent protection is intended to promote scientific and technological advance of the European Union. As a part of the measures to establish the internal market this Council’s decision is made for the purpose of the creation of uniform patent protection. Patent protection throughout the Union is intended to be uniform and to introduce the establishment of centralised Union-wide authorisation, coordination and supervision arrangements.
