Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the motivation scale of word families that form derivational nests in Russian. The author also points to the weakening of semantic links within word families, leading to the eventual desemantization. The analysis takes into consideration affixal derivatives where either the root, the word-formation stem or the formative undergo motivation, as well as structures with a semantically empty root, the latter being typical of expressive colloquial derivatives. The occurrence of low-motivated words is also connected with historical processes in lexis, including the interaction of Old Russian with the Church Slavic language. The problem is illustrated by composite words with an initial element благо-. The actualization of the inner structure of such composite words, as well as the strengthening of their motivation is shown in religious discourse, seen as a collective conceptualizer expressing a religious worldview.
