Summary/Abstract: The article discusses word-formative synonyms – lexemes of the same category, which arose from the same stem and which differ from each other only by their formant. The object of research will have to do with Old Polish adverbs, of which there are as many as 100 doublets: bujnie – bujno; daremnie – daremno; dostatecznie – dostateczno; dostojnie – dostojno; dziwnie – dziwno etc. The author demonstrates how deadjectival adverbs in -o and -e emerged, and in this context she emphasises the role of the fundamental genesis of both types, not disregarding other sources which co-constitute the class of adverbs. She presents the way in which the Old-Polish period (14th and 15th century) is the period of the fusion of adverbia which emerged in many ways, testimony of which is furnished by a considerable number of word-formative doublets. The further process of the selection of -e or -o was conditioned by the type of the suffix of the base adjective.
