Summary/Abstract: Located on Bistriţa Valley, close to the confluence with Siret River, the town, the city and then municipality, attested at 6th of October 1408, it has enjoyed a favorable position for its economical and social develompent. Bacău city was a knot of the main commercial roads from the central and western areas of Moldavia towards Transylvania and Wallachia with connections for the main european commercial roads. On these roads, besides commercial transports, have travelled foreign diplomats, romanian and foreign armies, lordly suites and messengers with orders or letters. Very important informations, concerning the functioning and structure of the mail service in Moldavia, can be found in the lordly documents, in the romanian and foreign chronicles, in the description of the travellers, of diplomats and dignitaries.
