Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes derivatives which originate from prepositional expressions such as międzydroże,śródżylny, przeciwatak, i.e. entities which are associated with the so-called secondary prepositions. Units of this kind constitute an intermediate zone between derivatives with original prepositions and compounds. They are featured in the Old Polish language (cf. e.g., poleboczny), but they only expanded in the Modern Polish period (cf. wewnątrzzakładowy, śródżylny, wokółksiężycowy). The status of these formations is relatively subject to change; their genetic structure is upset by a number of factors. This is the reason why they pass to the group of pre-fixal derivatives (e.g., międzyzakładowy) or on the contrary – to the group of composita (c f. śródmieście). A particular role in their development is played by dependence on foreign models. There are cases that the structure of the word-formative formations in question is extremely convoluted right at the origins of the said formations.
