Summary/Abstract: The article draws attention to the fact that in the scientific literature the derivational transposition is referred to different “carriers” / “objects”: the onomasiological, respectively derivational categories, the derivational processes, one of the derivational modes, the derivational meaning, and the function of the derivational formant. It is stated that in defining “transposition” (in a narrow sense) the postulate of identity between the lexical meaning of the source and the derived word must be reformulated. The paper shares the view that the same formant in the derivational process cannot perform more than one function; therefore, it is not acceptable to talk about mixed functions of the formant, as well as about onomasiological or derivational categories.
