Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to trace the process of emergence and development of sustainability – from the idea to the term. It introduces different definitions of the term depending on the contextual use, as well as documents where they meet. The paper is focused on important dimensions of the concept; special attention is paid on the social aspect.
