Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author presents preliminary conclusions regarding the issues of informal communication in the Dąbrowa Basin during the Se-cond World War. Particular attention was paid to amateur songs about life during the German occupation collected by Professor Adolf Dygacz. The characterized folklore material, in the perspective of research on the social history of the region, can be seen not only in the category of expres¬sion of grassroots creativity that contradicts the ancient maxim inter arma silent Musae, but above all in understanding amateur songs as attempts to interpret and categorize reality. In this context, songs and other informal forms of expression constitute a valuable, though often underestimated anthropological and historical source, providing a new perspective for conducting research in terms of cultural history.
