Summary/Abstract: In the context of the reform of the welfare of children have developed “new services”, whose main purpose is prevention of abandonment and support to families in the aspect of child upbringing. The long-term decisions in this area are based on the child’s best interests and not on the concepts of good and bad parenting. The article examines the activity of two alternative child services – CSC and the MBA. Although foster care and adaptation are a part of the activity of these services, they are not a subject of the examination. The focus is on establishing the main characteristics of the alternative services and on the profile of the mothers, who tend to use them.
