Summary/Abstract: The article explores the contributions of one of the founders of client-centered approach - Carl Rogers in terms of his understanding of empathy. On this basis, empathy is considered a key skill in casework as it helps us to better understand the situation that the client presents because the social worker builds his assessment and plans interventions based on good knowledge of the needs, aspirations, desires, fears and the overall way of looking at the world and their own situation by the client. The formation of a trusting relationship involves precisely the authentic understanding Rogers had about empathy. The purpose of this article is to examine the place of empathy in the client centered approach in social case work - theoretical background, practical and methodological aspects, criticism and limitations of the approach.
