Summary/Abstract: The article presents some of the main communication barriers for which there is a prerequisite to arise in the interaction between a social worker and a client with mental disorders. The results of a survey conducted among students from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", specialty Social activities, which aims to study their attitudes towards their work with people with mental disorders, as well as their opinion on the difficulties that may arise during the work process, are described and analyzed. The survey found that the majority of them identify misunderstanding and the effect of the central trend as the most likely communication barriers when working with people with mental disorders. According to students, the effect of contrast and belittling of authority can also lead to ineffective communication, but to a more moderate degree.
