Summary/Abstract: The article reviews a rather well-known concept for IT specialists, but scarcely found within the intellectual property literature. Web scraping is a mechanism used for systematically collecting the content of a website (data, information). Bearing in mind the economic, scientific and political value of information in the digital era, web scraping has a frequent usage. However, it is imperious to separate a legitimate use of such mechanism from situations where it can potentially represent a violation of intellectual property rights.
