Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the specificity of the Bulgarian language in the sphere of verbal aspect in relation to other Slavic languages, on the one hand, and to Modern Greek, on the other. Relations of the category of aspect with other verbal categories are viewed both in a broad Slavic and Balkan framework. A hypothesis is put forward about the location of the Bulgarian aspectual type between the Slavic and Greek aspectual types, describing from north to south the areal tendency of dominance of the category of aspect over the other verbal categories.
