Summary/Abstract: Self-control is the child's ability to pursue the achievement of personal goals in accordance with the social norm.It develops in the family context and is related to how the parent exercises self-control in interactions with the infant techniques and practices used to shape the child's behaviour. The present study examines the role and effect of parental self-control and rewards granting on the children self-control through mediator variables: the children compliance and the existence of authorised parental rules. This study was attended by 235 students randomly chosen from middle-schools and high-schools in Suceava County. The results suggest that the children’s compliance partially mediates parental self-control and the children's self-control, the rewarding of desirable behaviour and the children's self-control is partially mediated by their compliance. However, it is not mediated by the existence of authorised parental rules. Also, we have not found a significant effect of the parent's self-control variable on the existence of authorised parental rules.
