Summary/Abstract: While we may conceptualize numerous forms of care–environmental, historical, medical, psychological, or self-care, to name just a few–one literary act thatembodies and exemplifies an ethics of care is literary translation, particularlytranslation of poetry. This essay is concerned with how poetry translation specificallycan be seen as a triangulation of a feminist ethics of care, a form of whatJoan Retallack has coined “the poethical wager”, and by what Jerzy Jarniewicz hasidentified as “a species of translator” known as the legislator. Combined, theseconcepts demonstrate a poethics of translation and an especially pandemic-resistantkind of creative dialogue.
