Summary/Abstract: Three is a magic number: the three sons or daughters of the king, three wishes, three obstacles to overcome, third time lucky, etc. Thee-element enumerations have a kind of finality about them. In idioms, threesomes can be made up of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverb or names. As with other idioms, we also have to consider the eternal human fascination with rhythm, rhyme and alliteration.
