Summary/Abstract: Since the second half of the 20th century, many of the Colombian narrative works have been written with a word that is devoured by the theme of violence. By contrast, other works present a prose in which the word executes its tasks from the essential commitment to literary creation. In this direction, this article shows and discusses how in the nouvelle or short novel Pensamientos de guerra (2001) by Orlando Mejía Rivera there is a double challenge: the literary word also takes as a motif of fiction the theme of violence, but while doing so, it questions itself in its limitations and absurdities. Thus the word transcends to be a reason for liberation for the literary creation and for the final destination of the main character.
